The Seeds of the Word Community was founded on July 16, 2004, in the city of Palmas, Tocantins, Brazil, by Deacon Georges Bonneval and his wife Marie Josette, and approved by The Most Reverend Alberto Taveira Correa, former Archbishop of Palmas and current Archbishop of Belem-Para, Brazil.

We are a New Community, gathering in our hearts men and women united as a fraternity in the different states of life: single, married couples, families, priests and consecrated people, all called to give their lives in service to the mission “Pro Mundi Vita” (For the Life of the World).

The name “Seeds of the Word” is based on two passages of the sacred scriptures:

  • 1 Jn 1:1-4

  • 1 Pe 1:23

“We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands concerning the word of life…”

1 Jn 1:1-4

“The Second Vatican Council recalls that the Spirit is at work in the heart of every person, through the "Seeds of the Word," to be found in human initiatives-including religious ones and in mankind's efforts to attain truth, goodness, and God himself.”

"You have been born anew, not of perishable

but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.”

1Pet 1:23

Our Founders

The Seeds of the Word Community was founded by a French missionary couple Deacon Georges Bonneval and Marie Josette Bonneval.

Deacon Georges and Marie are married for 46 years, and they made in their own lives, an experience of conversion and salvation through the Word of God.

It was through the YES given to God by them, that the Holy Spirit had free access to beget the charism in their hearts, and thus, to be fruitful and so parents of a great spiritual family called Seeds of the Word Community. Deacon Georges exercises his Diaconal Ministry within the Community, and with Marie "Proclaims the Word" in the discreet authority of the Holy Spirit.

"The principal founder and the first member of the community is the Holy Spirit, which raises all and any community. Then, in the Founder rests the Charism Founder, a charism that should be made fruitful by a response to the Lord, as a gift made in confidence."

Our Charism

We are a contemplative and missionary community with the charism to announce the good news of salvation to the world through the Word of God.

The contemplative nature of our community is lived in a daily relationship with the Lord through the Liturgy of the hours, daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Lectio Divina, daily Mass and personal prayer.

Our missionary nature is based on the mission of the Church, wherever it may be gathered, and it is where we announce what we contemplate and share what we received from the Lord.

For us, all evangelization is founded on the heard, meditated, lived, celebrated and testified Word! Sacred Scripture is the font of evangelization, and We are lifelong missionaries to announce the good news.is therefore necessary for us to continually grow in receiving the word.

Our charism is based on five pillars:

  1. Eucharistic celebrations and prayer (Sacramental Life)

  2. The Word of God and formation

  3. Fraternal life (ecclesial and missionary)

  4. The blessed Virgin Mary

  5. Poor people (Mission)

States of Life

The Community is a Private Association of the Faithful. She is the image of the primitive Christian community and brings together all the states of life of God´s people. Each member of the Community body is called to be consecrated to the Community, that is, to be available and free, set apart for the work of God, through the community. This is a new form of consecrated life. This consecration requires a letting go of the old way of life so we can be available to the call of the missions. Everyone agrees to implement, according to their state of life, the spirit of the evangelical counsels which are chastity, poverty, and obedience to Christ.

Reunited in the Community are three states of life, all living the same common Rule of Life: singles, couples, and consecrated. These states of life are different but recognized as necessary and complementary. Let us remember that a state of life is not an end in itself but a means given by God for a single objective, which is heaven and holiness.

“So we have known and believe the love that God has for us.”(1 Jn 4.16)

All are called to the same holiness, the same community life, and the same founding charism. The Community recognizes the equal dignity of the vocation of all its members as a work of the Spirit, founded on Baptism and Confirmation and sustained by the Eucharist. It is also the Holy Spirit that allows this ecclesial plurality to be lived in an organic communion of diverse vocations, charisms, and ministries.

"Do not let anyone rob your freedom to announce the Good News of the gospel everywhere and in all places!"

Deacon Georges Bonneval
